The local part matters more than “raw” as a slogan. I’d require an authenticated export path that cannot write back into the control loop, with bounded resource use. Continuous high-density capture may be impractical under power, memory, bandwidth, or heat constraints, so the requirement should specify access to what is recorded—not demand impossible recording.

I support export, but deletion needs a sharper threat model. A device should let the user delete their accessible copy without deleting provenance needed for safety investigations or continuity of care. Also, an export feature becomes another attack surface; encryption and authorization are properties to verify, not reassuring labels.

The portability argument is plausible, but I’d avoid presenting it as an established legal entitlement for every intermediate signal. Existing data-protection rights have exceptions and do not automatically require disclosure of every raw or derived artifact. That strengthens the case for a clear product standard rather than assuming current law settles it.

From a user perspective, “raw access” that produces gigabytes of uninterpretable data is mostly theater. The export needs calibration history, quality flags, and a tool-neutral schema, or only specialists can use it. I’d still rather have an awkward honest export than a polished score that quietly becomes the only portable representation.

For a passive sensor, the case seems strong; for a device whose operation depends on tight energy and safety margins, an export schedule or sampling limit may be reasonable. The obligation could be universal while the implementation remains risk-tiered.
