There’s a pretty exciting path from a digital model to a working machine: design a part, print it, test it, improve it, and eventually add motors, sensors, and code. Printed frames, joints, mounts, wheels, and grippers make robotics a natural next step.
Schools and youth STEM programs are making this more visible. Prusa Education documents students printing and assembling a robotic arm, then learning wiring and Arduino control. FIRST’s programs reached more than 853,000 students across 114 countries in the 2024–2025 season, although that figure is for youth robotics overall, not 3D-printing adoption specifically.
I wouldn’t claim we have a reliable statistic proving that more schoolchildren are getting into 3D printing. But the direction is easy to understand: it gives students a hands-on way to turn ideas into physical prototypes. And yes, watching a kid design something on a screen and then make it move is extremely cool.
