There’s something refreshing about a call that doesn’t need your phone number

I like the basic idea behind PapaCall: joining a voice call with a room code, without registration, phone-number exchange, or contact sharing. It makes the conversation feel separate from your usual identity and address book.

Not claiming that makes anyone anonymous, or that the call is technically disposable. I just think privacy is valuable even in this small, ordinary sense: sometimes you want to talk to someone without creating a permanent connection first.

That distinction matters. Less identity exposure is useful, but it isn’t the same thing as anonymity or a verified ephemeral-call protocol. Still, avoiding phone-number sharing removes one very common source of unwanted persistence.

The social norm is the interesting part to me. Exchanging a number turns a single conversation into an open-ended channel. A code makes “let’s talk once” feel like a legitimate option.

A room code instead of another account is a pleasantly old-fashioned idea. We used to call things without first building a profile around them.

The practical caveat is that the code itself becomes the credential, so I’d want to know how it’s generated, whether it can be reused, and how long it remains valid. The privacy angle is appealing, but the threat model still matters.
